Our Under 15 hurlers got the week-end off to a start with a game against our neighbours on the East side Ranelagh Gaels. This was a “replay” of the Feile final and one again the Gaels took full points on a narrow three point win. Final score was 4-11 to 4-8.
Saturday morning was bright and sunny as we welcomed our Kevins Heroes as well as our Nursery boys and girls aged 4-7. Our Under 8-12 teams trained in both Loreto College and Dolphin Park on Saturday morning. In the afternoon our Under 13 squad and Under 14 Davin hurlers were in action after lunch. Our Under 13 hurlers travelled to Clondalkin and had a narrow loss to Round Towers on a final score of 2-7 to 2-4. With 2 games left against Naomh Mearnog and Castleknock this squad are still in running for a second place spot in Division 3. Our Under 14 Davin squad were down 7 points but managed a big comeback to reduce the deficit and eventually win their division 7 cup quarter final against Ballinteer Saint Johns. We now play Kilmacud Crokes in the semi finals on the 28th September. Our Cusack side will also be in action in the division 2 semi-final against St Jude’s. Our Under 16s travelled to Ringsend to take on Clan na Gael and unfortunately were on the wrong side of the final outcome.
Our Under 15 camógs suffered their first defeat in their division 1 championship against Ballyboden Saint Enda’s away. No doubt the girls will dust themselves off for their last group game against Faughs and go again. Our Under 14 camogie squad had a bye so weren’t in action. Of course it wasn’t just the kids togging out on Saturday. Well done also to the Kevins women who travelled to the GAA National Games Development Centre in Abbottstown and took part in the Social Camogie event! A great day was had by all!
Sunday was another busy day. Our Junior G squad wrapped up our adult championship group games today with another win at home in Dolphin Park against Scoil Uí Chonaill. Final score 3-14 to 2-6! Their likely opponents will be Saint James Gaels in the Quarter Finals. In other adult team news our Junior As lost to St Jude’s on a score line of 1-16 to 0-9. This leaves them in 3rd place and a Quarter Final fixture awaits, most likely against neighbours Crumlin. Our Junior Ds played Round Towers this morning in Clondalkin and took full points on a final score of 4-12 to 2-8. This places them top of their group which should give them home advantage in their Quarter Final. Most likely opponent’s are St Brigids, but all to be confirmed by Dublin County Board.
Our Intermediate 2 Camógs were also out in force today and had a good win against Naomh Barróg placing them top of their group. Final score 5-3 to 1-10.Todays win confirms they have topped the group and will go through to the knock-out stages. Our Junior 5 Camógs played earlier in the week and despite the loss are still in with a chance of qualifying for the knock out stages. However they await the outcome of another game. Our Under 13 camógs headed towards the Dublin Mountains and managed to hold of Stars of Erin in the cup and secure a win away from home. Final score: Kevins 4-6 Stars of Erin 3-2
Well done to all adult teams who have qualified for the knockout stages of their respective championships! This brings our total adult championship teams to 8 in 2024, as we also entered GAA Rounders championship in Senior Mixed, Senior Ladies and Junior Mixed. Our Senior Mixed squad made the Senior All-Ireland Semi-Finals earlier in the year and hopefully our hurlers and camógs can progress further. It’s also worth noting that from our 8 adult teams, 5 provided opportunities for female participation across 2 sports and various abilities. We have 3 adult men’s teams, 3 adult women’s teams and two mixed teams.
There was also plenty of drama off the field and specifically in the club house where Timmy Creed was entertaining our members, supporters and neighbours with his new show Our Ríocht, where he in partnership with the Dublin Culture Company shared stories, food, song and games, exploring the roots of hurling through myth and language and building our collective story together. We had 6 sittings over Saturday and Sunday and a full house of members, and supporters re-enacting the Céilí dances that were held in the building over 100 years ago.
What’s Coming Up? All mentors have been requested to attend a Coaching & Development meeting on Thursday night in Loreto College to discuss a number of topics including the upcoming schedule as we enter into the darker nights.
