June News and Updates

It’s been a busy few weeks with lots and lots of games and other activities! The week that started in May and ended in June was a big one for the camógs and a great way to celebrate 30 years of camogie in the club.

Our Under 14 girls were playing their final game in Division 2 and it was a top of table clash with Ballinteer Saint Johns. Unfortunately they lost out to a stronger BSJ side, but this was Kevins first year in Division 2, so to be in that position was an achievement in itself.

A number of girls went on to represent Dublin on the June Bank Holiday week-end. The weather was fabulous and so was the camogie. It was great to see some of our girls progress from the @donorecu ABC Nursery to the Dublin Camogie Under 14 Development squads. On Saturday Aedín Murphy got on the score sheet with a lovely point while Aisling Fitzgerald and Skye Connellan dominated on the half back line. Lucy Doyle togged out at wing forward against Tipperary on Monday and played very well grabbing a cracking goal. We are delighted for the girls who have worked really hard since November with Dublin. May this be the first of many opportunities they have to play for Dublin.

Our Under 16 camógs booked their place in the league final today by beating St Finians Swords. A well deserved ice-cream was in order after the game. Our Under 11 girls were invited to play in the St Sylvester’s tournament On Bank Holiday Monday and the put in some very impressive performances reaching the shield final.

The big event of the week gone by was the much anticipated Camogie Mothers and Others session. We were pleasantly surprised to see so many enthusiastic participants turn up to Dolphin Park. A great session was held by coach Alan Moore who put the women through their paces and the general feedback was that it was might craic! This is a 3 week #HealthyKevins project and all are welcome to join in next Friday.

There was great excitement and a large turnout in Loreto College on Saturday morning as our 2016 Group graduated from our Donore Ave Credit Union ABC Nursery. Meanwhile our underage hurling teams were busy on the field. The Under 8s travelled to Ringsend to play Clan na Gael and the Under 10s played Ballyboden SE on the Sancta Maria school all-weather pitch. Our Under 9s were at home in Loreto College against Kilmacud Crokes and our Under 11s hosted Skerries Harps. Our Under 12s travelled to Deer Park to play Kilmacud Crokes in their opening Division 6 tie. Crokes were the only team to beat them in the grading league and while Kevins narrowed the gap on previous exchanges the home side came away with the points.

The adult hurlers went unbeaten in their 3 league games this week-end commencing with the AHL10s side pipped Geraldine Moran’s away in Cornelscourt with a final score of 1-16 to 1-14. The AHL4 travelled to Shankill to take on Cuala and came away with  a draw, placing them in 5th spot with one game to go against local neighbours good Counsel / Liffey Gaels. The week-end game finished with a win for the AHL7 side against St Peregrines at home in Dolphin Park.

On Sunday afternoon our Senior Mixed Rounders side hosted Cuchulainn of Carlow in their League Round Robin game and came away with a great win against  the reigning All-Ireland Champions. It was a day for fielders as the scoreline ended 6-5 in favour of Kevins. Despite the low scoring Niall Lavery did manage to grab a spectacular home run and was very lucky with his second run of the day as a communication error between the pitcher and catcher allowed him to get home when it was a certain out. This leaves us in the race to qualify for the All-Ireland semi-finals, but there are still 5 games to go all of which will be away against top class opponents. Our Ladies are up next week in their last home game. They are currently unbeaten and in a very strong position to qualify for the All-Ireland semi-finals, but play the 2022 Junior All-Ireland Champions St Clare’s next Sunday in Loreto at 4pm. Again this is their last home game so would be a good opportunity for our younger GAA Rounders enthusiasts to get to see a good game.

Tomorrow we will have approximately 300 children taking part in the Schools Junior Blitz in Dolphin Park.

Are you interested in social games? We are back partnering with St James Gaels on the social hurling for parents interested in learning the skills or retired hurlers looking for a bit of exercise. We have social rounders for both men and women and there are also plans to establish social camogie in the coming weeks.
