Our Kevins Heroes and Donore Credit Union ABC Nursery went ahead as normal on Saturday morning, while our Go Games hurling teams trained and prepared for games next Saturday.
The Kevin’s Under 11 camogs travelled to Kiltipper with 2 teams and played an exciting 4 game blitz with Thomas Davis, who provided strong opposition in all games. Our girls played well and contributed to 4 absorbing encounters. Our GPO was very impressed with the girls determination to execute their skills during the match in the face of some strong opposition. Some great positional displays in defense and our newest girls, Tia, Sophie and Una May put in great performances.
Our Under 12 camogs travelled to Fingallians Club in Swords for our U12 Go Game. We had a great turn out from the players and we had 15 to pick from for the 13 a side game. The day was quite windy and it meant that there could have been the proverbial game of 2 halves. We played against the wind in the first half and we were marginally ahead having sneaked a goal and a few points versus their one score. In the second half we turned on the scoring machine and we managed to run out strong winners. We defended really well, some excellent tackling and we had some excellent passing movements in the game from midfield to the forwards. We were without a few players for this match so overall we were very happy with the result. There was an absolute belter of a thunder shower just after half time and another a little later. The girls got soaked yesterday also but they didn’t seem to complain and played throughout. Final Score Fingallians 2-3 Kevins 7-2.
Sunday morning commenced with the Under Camogie ninjas travelling to Stepaside to take on Stars of Erin and they put in another strong performance. This group of girls are small in numbers, but the quality of play they produce every week has them on our radar as the ones to watch.
The hurlers had mixed fortunes on Sunday. Our Under 19s had a great win against Scoil Ui Chonaill at home. Final score was 3-13 to 1-8. This leaves them with 1 win from 2 games. Their next fixture is against Kilmacud Crokes who have given 2 walkovers to date, so we await news on how that impacts. Regardless we are in a strong position to go through to the knock-out stages. Our Under 17s suffered defeat to Round Towers in the B championship. Our Under 15s travelled to Whitehall Colmcilles and had another good win in Division 3. After going behind by 3 goals in the first 5 minutes it wasn’t looking good. Encouraged by a large travelling support, the lads fought hard and brought the northsiders back to 3 points at half time. Kevins managed to take control in the second half, ending the game as 11 point winners. Final Score: 5-7 to 3-2. This group of players have 2 games left in the league and are hoping for a strong finish, but they must play St Finian’s of Swords away and they are sitting top of the table. St Finian’s might be unbeaten, but they don’t have Sliotar Mom behind them! Our Under 13 hurlers suffered a defeat in the league on Saturday. On Sunday, our Under 13 camogs went north again for yet another encounter and this time with plenty at stake as we had our final round robin game in the U13 Championship. We were needing another win to stay on top of the division and book a semifinal spot (hopefully at home) and we did just that today and perhaps this was our best game so far. We knew that they would be very strong and especially as we were playing them at home as this usually means they will have a full team panel to draw on. We were minus a few players who were injured and again this game was affected by the wind. The challenges were tough and the marking was tight so we had little room to manoeuvre and some of the girls picked up some injuries. We did not manage to get to play against the wind in the first half on this occasion as we prefer. However we set to the challenge early and had run up a few goals and points to no score for Naomh Mearnog at half time. We repeated our high level of performance again in the second half and we defended incredibly well and still manage to get some more goals and points with some great long range scores. Final Score Naomh Mearnog 1-2 Kevins 6-8.

Our Social Rounders group plan to get back together next Sunday afternoon in Loreto College in preparations for the upcoming winter social league.
