Weekly Round Up 1 May 2022

In recent years the Bank Holiday week-end meant a temporary wind down of activities, but as the club grows the opposite seems to have been the case last week. Prior to the week-end we had 3 adult league fixtures, loosing 2 and unfortunately the Dublin County Board advised that we had to give a walkover in another, as our home pitch was not available. On Thursday night we welcomed Naoise Waldron a senior hurler with Cuala and full-time coach with Dublin County Board. Naoise delivered the 1st part of the new Foundation Course to a large group of existing and new coaches. Friday night Rounders is back. Despite the Bank Holiday week-end the under 13 group had ~20 in attendance and the adults also prepared for their upcoming games in Emo Co. Laois on Sunday 8th May.

Saturday was one of the busiest days we had. We started at 8am with part 2 of the Foundation Course. Fair play to Barista Brian Flannery who was on hand with some fancy coffees for the attendees. The Donore Avenue Credit Union ABC Nursery was back after the Easter Break and the under 8 -12 teams trained. Both our Under 15 sides were in Feile action. The boys travelled to Sutton to play Naomh Barrog in the Division 3 Shield Final. Unfortunately they were unable to match their fantastic win in the semi-finals and lost out by 5 points. Our girls travelled to Westmanstown where they lost out to the eventual finalists Garda and Craobh Chiarian’s. Our under 12 girls had a fine win against Scoil Ui Chonaill at home in Dolphin Park. Play of the day was actually a sporting moment, when the referee thought Kevin’s had scored a goal, but young Aoife Gallagher advised the ref that the ball had not crossed the line. On Sunday morning the Under 9 Ninjas took to the field for their first game, where they hosted St Oliver Plunkett’s in Loreto College in torrential rain. There were some fine determination and skills on show despite the rain. Many thanks to the parents who helped out with the tents, teas and coffees. Meanwhile our Minor girls had a good win over Ballyboden in Dolphin Park. The minor girls are going well in their league having lost only 1 game to date. You can check their progress here.
