After a number of false starts due to poor weather and pitch conditions, it was great to get back to games last weekend. We had a full set of CCC1 hurling fixtures with our Under 8s heading to Bohernabreena to play St Anne’s, our Under 9s travelling to play Cuala, our Under 10s play Garda Westmanstown away and our Under 11s hosting Ballyboden SE. All teams performed well with plenty of blocking, hooking and striking on show. Well done also to our Under 12 hurlers who played their first Grading Game on Saturday morning against St Anne’s in Ballycullen. There was some very good hurling on both sides, so our boys were delighted to have earned their win with a final score of 3-5 to 0-0.
Matthew McGlade made club history on Sunday morning by representing Dublin in the Leinster Under 12 B 40×20 Championship and is the clubs first inter county handballer. travelled to Kell’s Handball club in Meath to take on Louth in the Leinster Under 12 B 40×20 singles championship and had a tough battle on his hands. Matthew went 2-12 down in the first game, but managed to win back the serve and recovered to win 15-13 which gave him a huge boost in his first ever representative game. Matthew then went 7-0 up in the second game, but the tides were turned when the Louth boy won back the serve and the game was brought back to 8-7. Matthew may have lost his serve, but not his nerve and was soon back in control, eventually winning out 15-7. He plays Meath in the Quarter Final on Sunday @ 4.30 pm in St Brigids of Blanchardstown. Many thanks to the Kell’s Handball Club who facilitated a friendly game afterwards with the Kell’s handball club in Meath where Matthew and Fred Macklin played the local boys. It was a great experience for the boys, as we have no courts of our own and have only re-established handball in the club after a gap of over 70 years.
Both our minor hurlers and camogs had great wins on Sunday beating Commercials 4-14 to 0-10 and Fingallians 2-15 to 1-7 respectfully.
As the club is growing at a rapid rate it’s important that we get more volunteers on board. Many thanks to Child Protection Officer who organised another Safeguarding 1 Workshop. It is essential that all our coaches and volunteers dealing with children complete this course. Many thanks to Niall Cooper who facilitated the session in St Catherine’s NS. There was great participation from everyone present.
With 30+ teams and lots of other activities we are calling on each team to send us in their updates. If you have a story or would like to promote your club team or event, please email pro.kevins.dublin@gaa.ie.
