Schools Blitz

Partnering with the local schools to get children playing sport is part of what we have been doing for over 100 years now. On Wednesday we ran a 2nd-3rd class blitz and this was followed by a 4th-6th class blitz today.

We had 11 schools participating on Wednesday including St Clare’s, Griffith Barracks MDNS, Canal Way ETNS, Harold’s Cross ETNS, Harcourt Terrace ETNS, St Brigids, Warrenmount, Bunscoil Synge, Scoil Iosagain, Steiner School and St Audeons. On Thursday we welcomed St Clare’s, Griffith Barracks MDNS, Scoil Treasa, Bunscoil Synge, Warrenmount and St Brigids. Well done to all the coaches, teachers and pupils involved.

A little known historical fact is that it was a Kevins’ man Harry O’Kelly who initiated sports days for school boys in Dolphins Barn prior to the War of Independence. This initiative was adopted by the Dublin County Board when Harry O’Kelly was appointed Dublin Schools League Chairman (predecessor to the Dublin Minor Board) which contributed to the growth of underage games in Dublin.
