Rounders On The Road

The 2024 Senior Mixed competition is almost at the half way stage and and Kevins who are in their second year at Senior level are in contention for reaching the semi-final stages. The squad travelled to Roscommon last Sunday and took full points against Michael Glaveys with Erica Meslin demonstrating why she was the 2023 Ladies Intermediate Player of the Year with some fabulous batting and fielding. Newcomer Dan Laughlin who is more familiar with the cricket bat than the GAA pitches also had a very good debut. This win keeps Kevins in the Top 4, but with a big game to come against the more experienced Breaffy club of Mayo is coming up.

Our adult Ladies were promoted to Senior last year and have found the competition a little tougher to date, loosing their opening two games. however, they are still in with a chance of qualifying for the semi-final stages, but must pick up points in their remaining three fixtures. The remaining fixtures for both Mixed and Ladies squads are:

  • June 2nd Versus Breaffy (Mayo) – Away
  • June 9th Versus Erne Eagles (Cavan) – Home
  • July 7th Versus Glynn Barntown (Wexford) – Home

We have also entered the 2024 Junior Mixed Championship. This squad will be made up of some veteran players and experienced youths. However we are still recruiting as the aim of this team is to give newcomers the experience of playing Rounders at a more relaxed pace than the Senior or Intermediate grades. We anticipate that many of our games will be in or near to Dublin which will hopefully enable some parents and mentors to try out and show their kids they can still turn their hand to sport. we plan to arrange some Friday night sessions once the Striking Academy finishes on the 25th May. Fixtures will be announced soon but the preliminary dates include:

  • June 2nd
  • June 16th
  • July 7th
  • July 14th

We also plan to participate in the recently established Under 12 Go Games events. This is the first year of Rounders Go Games which is a welcome change from the championship format in previous years, as it will give the boys and girls an opportunity to learn the game and have fun instead of the focus on winning. No doubt a competitive streak will kick once the kids step up to the plate 🙂 A series of introductory sessions will be organised within the club in June. Dates and times of the inter club blitzes will be confirmed, but it’s likely to be Saturday evening sessions for the inter club blitzes. If interested you can contact pro.kevins.dublin@gaa.ie.
