The Donore Credit Union ABC Nursery is back for 2024! We are starting back on Saturday 20th January!
We have developed a series of fun-based exercises to develop movement and motor skills for young children aged 4 to 7 years old. These skills form the basis for the later development of the specific skills of hurling and camogie. The level of competency with which one can perform these skills is referred to as their level of physical literacy. We believe that fundamental movement and basic motor skills should be developed in the early years of physical development to provide the basis for all further movement and motor development. Fundamental movement skills include crawling, rolling, agility, balance, coordination, running and jumping skills. We also focus on basic motor skills including throwing, catching and passing, as well as striking and controlling a ball. All our coaches are Garda vetted, receive training in respect to child safeguarding and complete foundation level coaching course.
Is it all hurling?
No. Our activities include a series of fun-based exercises and games to develop movement and motor skills for young children. But your child will have a hurley in their hand for most of the time. If you would like to see our nursery in action you can click here for a pre-pandemic video.
Where is it held?
Loreto College on Crumlin Road.
What time is it on?
10.30am – 11.30am We advise parents to arrive 15 minutes early to register and coordinate hurley and helmet
What should my child wear?
Warm clothing like a tracksuit. Avoid heavy coats during training as it will impede movement. The nursery is on Astro surface so runners will suffice.
Do I need to buy a hurley?
Ideally every child should have their own hurley. But we supply hurleys on the morning. as you child starts to enjoy the sessions more, then we would encourage you purchase a hurley.
Does my child need to wear a helmet?
Yes, helmets are mandatory. Similar to the hurley, we supply until such time you are in a position to purchase your own.
Any other equipment needed?
No. But we do recommend you bring your own water.
How much does it cost?
That depends on the option you take. Most parents opt for the pay as you go in the first few weeks to ensure their child enjoys the sessions, or if they sign up late in the year. The pay as you go option is €20 to cover insurance and then €3 per week (or €5 for two children). You can pay the €20 insurance via our secure payment platform which will be available again in 2022.
If you take out annual membership you don’t need to pay each week and the cost depends on the membership option you go for. See attached link for more info.
