The week-end kicked off with Friday night adult social rounders in Loreto College which will be a regular event over the coming months. This group got off to a damp start as rain started around 5pm, but they got to use their new bowling frame. It is planed to start underage rounders next Friday at 6.30 pm.
On Saturday morning our Kevin’s Heroes invited our neighbours – the Crumlin Champs – over for some coffee and cake to celebrate Autism Awareness Day. Loreto College was busy with our Donore Credit Union ABC Nursery throw at 10.30am and both our under 8 and 9 hurlers hosting St Olaf’s and St Jude’s. Our under 8s had a strong performance while our 9s battled it out with St Jude’s. Many thanks to our new referees from the under 16 hurling squad who refereed. Our under 10 hurlers welcomed St James Gaels to Dolphin Park and both our under 11 hurlers and camogs both travelled. The camogie team travelled to St Kevin’s / Killians in Kilnamanagh and played very well. Our hurlers travelled to Swords and played Fingallians in a 2 team game. Very strong work ethic and teamwork was reported which was complimented with high skills levels. The boys are putting in huge work in training and it’s beginning to pay off.
Club PRO Dáithí Ó hAoláin joined Mark Redican (St James Gaels GPO) and Abood Al Jumaili (AKA Bonnar) at the Dublin Mosque on the South Circular Road at lunch time to present medals to all the girls and boys who took part in the previous Saturday’s AIG Ireland Diversity & Inclusion Roadshow. The feedback from the children was very positive who advised the club coaches that they really enjoyed the football, hurling, camogie and rounders.
Back on the field of play our under 12 camogie squad welcomed Stars of Erin from Glencullen to Loreto College. This was the first year our under 12’s played at their own age level, having previously played a year up. The team had a mix of experienced players and newcomers and had an impressive debut. A special shout out goes to newcomer Olive Diamond who bagged a hattrick of goals. Both our Under 12 hurling teams were in action today and the fantastic start to the season came to an abrupt end. Our Cusack group received a lesson in hurling out in Finglas against a strong Erin’s Isle outfit and our Davin squad were beaten by Na Gaeil Óga at home in Dolphin Park. There is a great morale on these squads and no doubt they will bounce back. In the evening game the under 16 hurlers lost to St Marks. In the last game of the day our Intermediate hurlers played Avondale at home in the Leinster League which ended in a draw.
On Sunday morning our under 17 hurlers had the day off due to a scheduling error by the Dublin County Board who fixed us for a game against a team not in our division. Our under 19 hurlers had a good win at home against O’ Dwyer’s of Balbriggan. It was a competitive game ending on a scoreline of 2-11 to 1-10 with good performances all around. However, a special mention goes to Dan O’Loughlin, Kieran Nolan and Julian Hauxwell. In the game of the day our under 13 camogie squad travelled to Tymon North and put in a very strong performance against Faughs. Team mentor Michelle Madden has denied feeding them performance enhancing vegetables from her Evergreen shop on Wexford St.
